About Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve
Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve is one of India’s most renowned wildlife destinations, located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan. Known for its rich biodiversity and frequent tiger sightings, the reserve is a perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and wildlife conservation.
Spread over a vast area of dry deciduous forests, lakes, and rocky terrain, Ranthambhore is home to the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger along with leopards, sloth bears, hyenas, sambar deer, chital, nilgai, wild boar, and over 300 species of birds. The park’s unique landscape, combined with ancient banyan trees and open grasslands, offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
At the heart of the reserve stands the historic Ranthambhore Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, adding cultural and historical significance to the jungle experience. Safaris are conducted in open gypsy (jeep) and canter vehicles, allowing visitors to explore designated zones under the guidance of trained naturalists.
Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve is open from October to June and remains closed during the monsoon season. It is an ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers seeking an authentic jungle safari experience in Rajasthan.
Wildlife & Biodiversity
Apart from tigers, Ranthambhore is home to leopards, sloth bears, striped hyenas, jungle cats, desert foxes, and marsh crocodiles. Herbivores such as sambar deer, chital, nilgai, and wild boar are commonly seen. The reserve is also a paradise for bird lovers, with over 300 species including crested serpent eagles, owls, parakeets, kingfishers, and migratory birds during the winter season.
Safari Experience
Jungle safaris in Ranthambhore are conducted twice daily—morning and afternoon—in open gypsy (6-seater jeep) and canter (20-seater) vehicles. The park is divided into multiple safari zones, each offering a distinct landscape and wildlife experience. All safaris are conducted under strict forest department guidelines with trained drivers and naturalist guides to ensure safety, conservation, and responsible tourism.
Ranthambhore Fort – Heritage Inside the Jungle
Located within the core area of the reserve, the 10th-century Ranthambhore Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort offers panoramic views of the forest and stands as a reminder of the region’s royal past, blending history seamlessly with wilderness.
Best Time to Visit
Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve remains open from October to June and is closed during the monsoon season (July to September). The summer months increase the chances of tiger sightings, while winter offers pleasant weather and lush scenery.
